Cascades Gardens is a public Meditation Garden and Bonsai Centre inspired by Japanese gardens and Buddhist Philosophy. They are located in the historic village of Bonsall near Matlock, Derbyshire.
It is a peaceful and natural garden to visit, with homemade cakes and hot drinks available in their refreshment cafe.
The grounds were originally home to a 19th century quarry, lead mine and corn mill. Since Alan Clements moved here 30 years ago, he has transformed the site into a fascinating garden, designed to complement and blend into the spectacular natural landscape of rocks, cliffs and woodland. An 80 ft cliff towers over the gardens, with the combination of massive rocks, water and lush natural planting intended to refresh the soul and celebrate nature.
Cascades Gardens is set on many levels with a new meditation seat around every corner, showing perennial flower beds, roses, waterside plantings and alpine and conifer rockeries. There is a great view from the cliff-top path and quarry bank. Every season brings new surprises with hosts of hellebores, hostas, rare and unusual perennial flowers, shrubs, trees and conifers. Cascades Gardens is the perfect place to relax and reflect.
The entry price is £8 per person. We require at least 10 people to confirm they will be going as soon as possible, as there is a minimum charge of £80 for group visits, with any remaining costs (additional entrance fees and refreshment costs) payable in one lump sum at least 3 days before the day of our visit. Therefore Martin will need payment and your choice of refreshments before the trip
Refreshment options are as follows:
Hot drink (tea or coffee). £2.20 per person.
Hot drink & biscuits. £4.00 per person.
Hot drink & a cupcake. £6.00 per person.
Martin proposes that after visiting the Gardens, at about 1pm, we walk approximately 100 yards up the road to The Fountain Cafe for lunch, which will be pre-ordered but paid for on the day. Martin will send out menus and a daily specials list to all those coming on this trip to enable you to make your choice before the event.
